FAQs
Suede is traditionally manufactured from leather skins. The upper grain of the leather is eliminated, leaving just the fuzzy, napped underside. This production method results in a softer and more malleable leather. Real suede leather is used for furniture upholstery, but it is significantly more costly than synthetic suede and is prone to water and stain damage. Faux suede, on the other hand, is a synthetic fabric resembling suede, typically made from polyester.
Yes. Faux suede is a tough, durable, and stain-resistant vegan fabric made completely of polyester microfiber. It has a similar appearance and feel to authentic suede but is significantly less expensive.
Faux suede is composed of synthetic materials such as polyurethane, polyester, and polyvinyl, which do not absorb water since they are synthetic and non-porous. For added protection, the fabric is treated with a second layer of water-resistant (fluorocarbon) coating.
Yes. Suede is more stain-resistant than faux suede and it is also easier to clean. This makes it an excellent fabric for upholstering, apparel, and footwear. Our own faux suede is treated with a fluorocarbon finish to enhance the fabric's stain resistant and water resistant properties.
To protect faux suede against stains and water, invest in a silicone-based waterproof spray. Be sure to apply it liberally before using the piece of furniture, clothing, or shoes for the first time.
