GSM is not always an indicator of durability in all cases, for example one indicator of high gsm is simply a heavier, thicker towel which would typically be more absorbent. There are actually no British standards or requirements for fabric used in curtains in a domestic context, whether you're making them for yourself or offering for sale. Curtains used in contract environments though–such as offices, restaurants, bars, hotels, pubs, clubs, etc...– must meet contract standards.
