Leatherette
Faux Leather, Imitation Leather or Leatherette – many names but essentially same manmade ‘real look’ fabric - which is becoming more fashionable loosing its reputation as cheap and plasticky. Imitation Leather has become more accepted in recent years as many people opt for a real leather look with out the real leather cost.
Leatherette is commonly used in upholstery for sofas and chairs, being very popular with the contract market for banquet seating and heavy use upholstery.
Imitation Leather can be sold as Flame Retardant (F R), the F R relates to the inherent flame proof properties of the fabric. This can be an applied treatment or an inherent part of the fabrics structure which is introduced during its manufacture. The more practical uses of Leatherette are reflected in the solid colour ways available, Black, Brown, and Cream.
Imitation Leather is manufactured with 100% polyester, which can be cleaned with a damp cloth, another part of the saleability of Leatherette is that it could be seen as child and pet proof.
